Community Calendar: Cloquet Labor Day Parade and more

Community Chess Club, 3:30-5 p.m., Cloquet Public Library.

Cloquet Labor Day Celebration, 11 a.m., Cloquet. The parade kicks off at 11 a.m. There will also be food trucks on Cloquet Avenue including Go Figur, Holy Smokes, Junior’s Backyard Grill and The Food Stand.

Storytime, 10-10:30 a.m., Cloquet Public Library. Join Miss Morgan for storytime. The weekly events feature stories, songs and interactive activities. Storytime is geared toward children ages 0-5 and their caregivers.

Library Book Sale, 12:30-1:30 p.m., Cloquet Public Library.

Bunches of Books, 5:30-6:30 p.m., Cloquet Public Library. Bunches of Books Book Club for kids is geared toward children ages 9-12. Registration is required; call the library at 218-879-1531 to reserve a spot for your child.

Chair Yoga for All, 11-11:45 a.m., Cloquet Public Library. Carolyn Ripp will lead the class. Chair Yoga can increase flexibility, improve core strength and balance, reduce stress and pain, and more. It can be beneficial not only for seniors but for anyone who has desk work and/or tends to sit for a long period of time. Come in comfortable clothing. No previous experience is necessary.

Adult Pop-up Flower Greeting Card Craft, 2-3 p.m., Cloquet Public Library.

Wrenshall Brickyard Days, 3 p.m., Jim Erickson Field, Carlton. Brickyard Days kicks off with a tailgate at 3 p.m., followed by the Carlton/Wrenshall Raptors football game at 4 p.m. The tailgate will include hot dogs, chili and soup for purchase with all proceeds benefiting the Raptor Scoreboard Fund.

Cromwell Harvest Fest, Cromwell Park. Events kick off with a steak fry and chicken wing contest.

Blackhoof Firefighters Relief Association Annual Pancake Breakfast and Raffle, 7 a.m., Blackhoof Fire Department, 3148 Carlton County Road 5, Barnum. The raffle drawing will be held after breakfast.

Wrenshall Brickyard Days, 7 a.m., Wrenshall. A pancake breakfast runs from 7-11 a.m. at Wrenshall School. There will also be a 3-on-3 basketball tournament, with the time TBD. A 5K run will start at 9 a.m., and the parade will get underway at noon. After the parade, there will be an open house at the Wrenshall Fire Hall featuring ice cream, a raffle and the chance for children to spray a fire hose. There will also be fun at Deer Park including Bigo, kids’ carnival games, crazy hair and facepainting, a pie and bake sale, food and craft vendors, a dunk tank and a ball pit. A free showing of The Super Mario Bros. Movie will begin at dusk. Attendees can also enter the cornhole tournament and take in live music at Bricks.

Cromwell Harvest Fest, Cromwell Park. Festivities continue with kids' activities in the park from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., including sand art, pumpkin painting, relay races, a duck race, bobbing for apples, pumpkin tic tac toe, the giant kerplunk, the soccer kick and the outdoor twister. The farmers market and vendor show gets underway at 11 a.m. and runs until 3 p.m. A bags tournament begins at 1 p.m.

House Fire Fundraiser for the Stansfield Family, noon, Cloquet VFW, 210 Arch St., Cloquet. The Cloquet VFW will host a Sloppy Joe dinner fundraiser to the benefit Nate and Bobbie Stansfield, who lost their home in a fire on June 23. The Stansfields have four children. The event runs from noon to 6 p.m. and includes 50/50 drawings, a silent auction and food. The cost is $12 for adults and $6 for kids. Those who can't attend can contribute to the GoFundMe by visiting gofundme.com and searching for "Stansfield house fire."

Cromwell Harvest Fest, Cromwell Park. The final day of the event includes a farmers market and vendor show from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and more.

Brown Bag Lunch with a Master Gardener, noon to 1 p.m., Cloquet Public Library, Learn about bulb planting and how to prepare for next spring during the lunchtime session. Participants are asked to bring their own lunches.

Barks & Books, 4 p.m., Cloquet Public Library. Parents and caregivers can sign their children up to read one-on-one with therapy dogs Han Solo, Tiara or Trapper. Kismet in Carlton Balloon Festival, 2 p.m., Black Bear Casino Resort. The second annual festival will include 10 hot air balloons, food trucks, bounce houses, a chain saw artists, helicopter rides and live music.

Gun Bingo, 11:30 a.m., Four Seasons Sports Complex, Carlton. The auction will begin at 11:30 a.m. Ticket sales start at 12:15 p.m., with bingo to begin at 1 p.m. Only cash will be accepted. No registration is required and participation is on a first come, first served basis. People must be age 21 or older to participate. There will be 10 bingo games for $100, five raffle drawings for five guns with tickets at $10 each. Hot dogs and brats will be for sale, and there will also be a cash bar. Proceeds will benefit the Forgotten Heroes Ranges and Retreat in McGregor.
